The second of two winners of last Wednesday's Maryland Lotto jackpot, worth a total of $1.7 million, has been identified by lottery officials as N. Herrera, 26, a Spanish national.
Mr. Herrera, who has three children, lives in Silver Spring and works for a Silver Spring construction firm. He will split the jackpot with a Baltimore resident, J. Thornton, 46, according to lottery spokeswoman Elyn Garrett.
Both winners declined to authorize the release of their first names.
Mr. Herrera claimed his prize yesterday at lottery headquarters. Mr. Thornton came forward Friday.
Ms. Garrett said each of the winners matched all six of the numbers drawn and will receive 20-year annuities worth $878,603. Mr. Thornton will take home $31,900 annually over the next 20 years. Because of rules requiring greater tax withholding for foreign nationals, Mr. Herrera will collect about $27,500 a year.
