Volunteers/Where good neighbors get together

CURRENT volunteers' news and needs:

The United Cerebral Palsy Bartenders' Contest will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Bay Cafe in Canton. Raffle tickets will be sold and each ticket is worth 10 votes for a favorite bartender. For details of the 1992 Baltimore Bartenders' Charity Ball call Ann Cartenuto, (410) 484-4540.

Baltimore Office of Promotion wants volunteers who will help with upcoming events such as the Preakness Parade, Mayor's Easter Egg Hunt and Columbus Parade. Volunteers will work in a variety of functions, including parade marshals, helping with decorations and costumed characters. Call Reno Manning, 752-8632.

Investing in Our Children, a prenatal outreach and education program administered by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, needs volunteers for the Park Heights community to visit and inform the pregnant residents there of the importance of prenatal care and of the free services available to them. J.C. Penney Golden Rule Awards, which recognize groups and individuals for their volunteer work, will be presented in April. The deadline for non-profit organizations throughout central Maryland to submit nominations for an outstanding volunteer award is March 20. Winners receive money awards as do the organizations which they volunteer to. Nomination forms are at the catalog desks of local J.C. Penney stores, or call (410) 298-8100.

The League for the Handicapped, Inc. wants volunteers for its new consignment section in its family thrift shop sponsored by the league's women's auxiliary. Open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Proceeds benefit Camp Greentop. Details: 323-0500.

Howard County Department of County Administration, Cable 15, wants two mature men with some acting ability to volunteer for a video program on recycling in Howard County. It would require one to two weekdays of shooting. Call Tara Gary, 313-6112 to audition.
