Paul F. Guerin

Dr. Paul F. Guerin, a Cockeysville pathologist who worked at Franklin Square Hospital for 24 years, died Jan. 23 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore after a long respiratory illness.

Services for Dr. Guerin, who was 71, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Towson Unitarian Universalist Church, 1710 Dulaney Valley Road in Lutherville.

A native of Erie, Pa., Dr. Guerin graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1945 and served in the Army Medical Corps from 1946 to 1948. He did his residency in pathology at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia and served as Maryland's assistant state medical examiner between 1954 and 1959.

Late in his life, he joined the Hemlock Society, a group that supports those who wish to end their own lives when faced with terminal illness.

He is survived by three sons, Richard David, of Fort Meade, Joel Frederick of Wilkes Barre, Pa., and Michael Paul, of Suncook, N.H.; a sister, Mary Elizabeth of San Diego; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
