Wmc Housing Director Elected To Service Post

WESTMINSTER — Joanne A. Goldwater, director of housing at Western Maryland College, has been elected vice president/president-elect of the Mid-AtlanticAssociation of College and University Housing Officers.

MACUHO isa professional service organization of housing officers involved in higher education in the mid-Atlantic region.

Goldwater, who is responsible for housing for all Western Maryland students in college residence halls and apartments, also received MACUHO's 1991 Outstanding Service Award.

She was elected to serve as vice president for the organization this year, followed by a year-long term as president.

In the latter position, she will represent MACUHO at the national level.

She said she plans to focus on the promotion of diversity in college life as well as issues concerning student health.

Since 1988, Goldwater has served on the association's executive board as co-chair of the Membership and New Delegates Committee.

Now in its fourth year, the Outstanding Service Award is presented to the member who has exhibited leadership in the region andhas made outstanding contributions to the organization. In 1990, Goldwater received the Outstanding New Professional Award.

Having been with the college for 4 1/2 years, Goldwater now manages on-campus housing for all undergraduate and graduate students during the academic year and through the summer months.

She also acts as a mediator in resolving housing issues, and she resides on the campus.
