Navy Seaman Recruit Patrick L. Fuchs, son of Willalm and Debrah Fuchs of Bel Air, completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the cycle, recruits are taught general military subjects designed to preparae them for further academic and on-the-job training in one of the Navy's 85 occupational fields.

Studies include seamanship, close-order-drill, naval history and first aid.

He is a 1991 graduate of Bel Air High School.


Navy Airam Recruit Lamar A. Black, son of Leonara Bkuford of Edgewood, has reported for duty aboard the aircraft caarrier USS Ranger, home-ported in San Diego.

The 1991 graduate of EdgewoodHigh School joined the Navy in August 1991.


Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Josep;h P. Rilely, son of Virginia C. Riley of Bel Air, recently returned to Mayport, FDla., aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal following a seven-month deploylment to theMediterranean and the Red Sea.

Riley deployed with the 10-ship battle group while it conducted operations, as well as provided supportfor the Kurdish Relief effort.

USS Forrestal assisted in President Bush's visit to Greece and Souda Bay, Crete, in July.

Before leaving the Mediterranean, Rilely also participated in several multinational training exercises with Spain, Italy, Germany, Tukrkey, Greece, France, Great Britain and the Netherlands.

The 1976 graduate of Bel Air High School joined the Navy in November 1987.


Airmen Paul C. Michaud and Steven C. Kirkwood have graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

During the six weeks of training the airmen studied Air Force mission, organization and customs and received special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training enarn creditstowanrd and associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Michaud is the son of Sgt. 1st Class John J. and Linda A.Michaud of Edgewood.

Kirkwood is the son of Robert Kirkwood of Jarrettsville and Mary Jo Kirkwood of Street.

He is a 1991 graduate of Harford Technical High School.
