Easy and safe microwave tips

January 29, 1992

* When microwaving cakes or breads, use graham cracker crumbs, gingersnap or chocolate cookie wafer crumbs, or cinnamon sugar, to coat the surface of the greased dish when item is to be turned out. This will add appealing color and flavor to the surface.

* To clarify butter, cut one-quarter pound (one stick) into pats and heat at high in a two-cup glass measure, covered loosely with a paper towel, for two minutes. Skim the solids from the top, pour off the clear liquid (the clarified butter) and discard the milky solids at the bottom.
