Ralph A. Schafer Steel foreman

Services for Ralph Alexander Schafer, a retired foreman in Bethlehem Steel Corp.'s metallurgical laboratory, will be at 12:30 p.m. today at Schimunek Funeral Home, 9705 Belair Road, Perry Hall.

Mr. Schafer died Friday of heart failure at his home in Bel Air. He was 76. He worked about 30 years for Bethlehem Steel, retiring for health reasons in June 1975.

He was a native of Dundalk but had lived in Bel Air since 1955.

During World War II, he was an Army infantryman in Europe and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, the former Pearl Wagner; three sons, Charles E. Schafer of Columbia, Gerald L. Schafer of Bel Air and Donald L. Schafer of Bel Air; a daughter, Cecilia Gast of Bel Air; a sister, Dorthea Kearins of Dundalk; and five grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, 415 N. Charles St. 21202.
