Navy Dentalman Edward J. Davis, a 1990 graduate of Laurel High School, is serving in the Middle East aboard the amphibious transport dockUSS Nashville.
Davis, who joined the Navy in July 1990, departed from Norfolk, Va., last fall as part of a three-ship amphibious readiness group patrolling the northern Persian Gulf.
In November of last year, he participated in Exercise Eager Mace,conducted as part of the defense cooperation agreement between Kuwait and the United States.
Marine Capt. Robert L. Dyson, son of Nancy and Thomas Dyson Jr. of Mount Airy, recently was promoted to his present rank while serving at Marine Corps Recruiting Station, Philadelphia.
A 1987 graduate of the University of Mississippi, he joined the Marine Corps in September 1981.
GRANT FINISHES TRAINING
Pfc. David G. Grant Jr., son of Anne and David of Glenelg, has completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.
Grant is a 1978 graduate of Glenelg High School.
Staff Sgt. Brian S. Spencer, son of Nancy B. Spence of Columbia, has re-enlisted inthe Air Force for four years.
Spencer is a 1983 graduate of Centennial High School.
Marine Cpl. Timothy P. McDonough, son of Donna and Harold McDonough of Columbia, recently was meritoriously promoted to his present rank while serving at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
McDonough received the accelerated promotion in recognitionof outstanding performance of duty, proficiency and professional abilities.
A 1984 graduate of Centennial High School, he joined the Marine Corps in June 1989.

BARNES RETURNS TO U.S.
Navy Dentalman Thurman D. Barnes, a 1988 graduate of Hammond High School, returned to Norfolk, Va., aboard the destroyer tender USS Shenandoah following a seven-month deployment to the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.
Barnes joined the Navy in September 1988.
Coast Guard Fireman Lisa D. Dickey, daughter of Terri L. Blackman of Columbia, recently graduated from Coast Guard Recruit Training Center at Cape May, N.J.
The 1986 graduate of Oakland Mills High School joined the Coast Guard in September 1991.
NESBIT ENDS DEPLOYMENT
Navy Airman Recruit William G. Nesbit, son of James N. Nesbit of Ellicott City, recently returned to Norfolk, Va., aboard the multi-purpose amphibious assault ship USS Wasp following a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea.
Nesbit, whojoined the Navy in May 1991, participated in a NATO training exercise with forces from Spain and France.
NIGHTINGALE IN GULF
Petty Officer 1st Class Danny W. Nightingale, son of Jacqueline and stepson ofJames Wallace of Mount Airy, is serving in the Persian Gulf aboard the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, midway through a six-month deployment.
Nightingale joined the Navy in March 1982.
