Lyric show features gospel music
"Joshua Fit De Battle of Jericho," "Jezebel" and other traditional gospel songs will be featured in "Golden Gate," a musical celebration at the Lyric Opera House Tuesday through Sunday. The show is directed and choreographed by George Faison, who won a Tony Award for his work on "The Wiz."
Evening performances are at 8 p.m. and 7:30 p.m Sunday. Matinees are at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $23.50 and $15 for Tuesday evening; $23.50, 21.50 and $12.50 for Wednesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday matinees; $26.50, $23.50 and $14.50 for Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings and Sunday matinees. Sparti, will present a free concert today at 3 p.m. at Turner Auditorium, 1734 East Monument St. They will perform Schubert's Mass in E-Flat and Mozart's Overture to The Marriage of Figaro. John Ketchum SONUS,a Baltimore-based trio, will present a program of music and literary readings Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Baltimore Museum of Art's Meyerhoff Auditorium. "A Salon Evening in 1920s Paris" will feature works for soprano, flute and piano as well as readings from Paris' flourishing literary scene after World War I. A reception follows the performance.
