Baltimore City

ROBBERY: Northern District -- A woman was robbed by two men, one with a handgun, after she accepted a ride. The victim told police that when she and her cousin were getting out of the car in the 2800 block of Virginia Ave. around midnight Tuesday, one of the men pulled out what appeared to be a 9mm semiautomatic and demanded her jewelry. The woman told police the men drove off after she gave up a set of earrings, two rings, a necklace and her leather coat. Police said the property was valued at nearly $1,500.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- A woman walking in the 900 block of Belgian Ave. early yesterday was approached from behind by a man who stole her purse, which contained cash and property valued at more than $120.

THEFT: Northern District -- Property valued at nearly $600 was reported stolen from a pickup truck while it was parked in the 2700 block of Loch Raven Blvd. The owner of the vehicle told police the thief entered the truck by opening a door and stole a heavy-duty electric drill and several drill bits.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- A resident of the 400 block of Evesham Ave. reported that someone entered her apartment yesterday and stole a microwave oven and other property. Police said entry was gained by forcing a door and that the property was valued at $400.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- Property valued at more than $800 was reported stolen from a dwelling in the 900 block of Cator Ave. yesterday after someone entered by forcing a basement door. Police said the intruder ransacked several rooms before stealing a VCR and a watch.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- Jewelry and a VCR were stolen from a dwelling in the 5100 block of The Alameda yesterday after someone got in through a side door. The occupant of the house told police the property was valued at more than $5,000.

THEFT: Northern District -- A resident of the 600 block of Homestead St. told police that a man who rented a room from him stole blank checks between Jan. 3 and Tuesday and cashed several of them for more than $500. Police said the victim was advised to seek a warrant for the boarder.

THEFT: Northern District -- A student at Johns Hopkins University in the 3400 block of N. Charles St. told police someone stole books and a checkbook from his locker at the school. Police said the property was valued at nearly $140 and the locker had no door. In an unrelated case, a school official reported that someone broke into a storeroom inside a school office and stole a radio and a compact disc player, valued at $300.

THEFT: Northern District -- Someone broke a window to enter a car parked in the 400 block of E. 30th St. yesterday and stole a down jacket that the owner of the car, an out-of-town resident, told police was valued at $100.

BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- A resident of the 3300 block of Walbrook Ave. reported that someone broke into his home through a side window Monday night or Tuesday morning and stole a shotgun and stereo equipment valued at more than $2,000.

BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- Employees of the Poplar Grove carryout restaurant in the 1800 block of Poplar Grove St. reported that someone entered the business through the roof Monday night or Tuesday morning and stole property valued at more than $200, including cartons of cigarettes, coins and a telephone.

ROBBERY: Eastern District -- Two thieves, one carrying a handgun, stopped a man in the 1800 block of Federal St. early yesterday and robbed him of $40. The victim told police the two men drove off in a red Toyota.

BURGLARY: Eastern District -- A resident of the 2000 block of Ashland Ave. reported that someone broke into her home Tuesday and stole a TV, gold ring with diamonds and a gold herringbone necklace, all valued at more than $1,000.

SHOOTING: Eastern District -- Police said a 27-year-old man was in critical condition today at Johns Hopkins Hospital after he was shot in the face Tuesday night in the 1700 block of Crystal Ave. Police said the victim, Tyrone Hearn, was unable to tell police who shot him or why.

ROBBERY: Eastern District -- A collector for the United Insurance Co., in the 700 block of W. 40th St., told police he was in the 2700 block of E. Biddle St. shortly before 1 p.m. yesterday when a man with a revolver robbed him of $200 in cash and escaped on foot.

ROBBERY: Eastern District -- Two men, one with a handgun, stopped a man walking in the 1900 block of N. Washington St. around 5 p.m. yesterday and robbed him of $20. Police said the gunman then struck him over the head with the weapon and the thieves escaped on foot.

BURGLARY: Eastern District -- A resident of the 600 block of St. Anns Ave. reported that someone broke into his home yesterday and stole property valued at more than $1,700. Police said the burglar got in through a front window and escaped with a TV, VCR, power saw and several hundred dollars in cash. Police said a male resident of the 300 block of E. 22nd St. is being sought in the break-in.
