EMMITSBURG — Mount St. Mary's romps, 86-55

EMMITSBURG -- Mount St. Mary's, challenged for 21 minutes by St. Francis, Pa., used a 21-6 burst as a springboard to an 86-55 Northeast Conference victory at Knott Arena last night.

Vanessa Blair had nine points in the flurry and went on to total 21 points and 11 rebounds. St. Francis contributed to its downfall with 20 (of its 35) second-half turnovers.

Dawn St. Clair had 10 of her 14 points and five steals in the first 8 minutes, 26 seconds of the second half, as Essex Community College used pressure defense and solid offense for a 14-0 run against the New Community College of Baltimore at the Coppin Center. This cut NCCB's lead to 36-34, and the opposition got within 40-39 with 6:35 left, but could not sustain the effort.
