The following events are taking place in Anne Arundel County to markthe birthday of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
His birthday, Jan. 15, will be observed at the federal level on Jan. 20.
St. John's ceremony
At 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 20, therewill be a ceremony sponsored by the state of Maryland in the Great Hall of St. John's College, at McDowall Hall in Annapolis, to mark Dr.King's birthday.
The ceremony will include speeches and music, featuring singer Paris Lane.
At noon, there will be a nationwide ringing of bells to mark the national observance of Dr. King's birthday.At St. John's College, a reproduction of the Liberty Bell will be rung, led by Maryland's assistant Secretary of State Winfield Kelly.
AACC offices closed
All Anne Arundel Community College offices (except records and registration) will be closed Jan. 20, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Late registration hours for the spring semester credit classes will be between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. that day.
Spring semester classes start Jan. 21. Late registration will continue at the Arnold campus through Jan. 25, and at the Fort Meade Army Education Center and the Arundel Center North in Glen Burnie through Jan. 24.
