Georgetown -- Announce that basketball G Charles Harrison will transfer.

Maryland -- Named Arizona assistant football coach John Baxter tight ends and special-teams coach. Named Javaune Adams-Gaston director of student services, giving her administrative responsibility for academic support and sports medicine. Announced that Gerry Gurney, associate director of athletics in charge of academic support, will be reassigned.

Ohio State -- Announced F Monica Taylor has been permanently dropped from the women's basketball team.

Southwest Baptist -- Suspended basketball coach Jerry Kirksey and F Glenn Stanley (22.1 ppg, 9.6 rpg) until the investigation into possible NCAA violations is completed. Assistant coaches Rand Chappell and Darin Kirksey, the coach's son, will run the team.

Texas A&I -- Named Jim Dawson defensive backs coach.

Wisconsin -- Announced that football coach Barry Alvarez will have his contract extended through 1966.

Youngstown State -- Extended the contract of football coach James Tressel through 2000. Tressel will also become the executive director of athletics beginning July 1, 1995.

Green Bay Packers -- Announced that Dick Moseley, Buddy Geis and Virgil Knight, assistant coaches, will not be offered contracts.

New York Jets -- Named Dick Haley director of player personnel.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Named Steve Shafer defensive backs coach.

Hockey

NHL -- Suspended Chicago Blackhawks LW Stu Grimson for 10 games for his part in a brawl during a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.

Washington Capitals -- Recalled D Shawn Chambers (2 goals, 3 assists and 9 penalty minutes in 5 games during a 2-week

reconditioning assignment with AHL Baltimore).

Track and field

Norway Track and Field Association -- Barred shot-putter Georg Andersen from competition for 1 year after ruling he had used the banned anabolic steroid metenolon. Andersen said he will appeal. The decision, if upheld, would cost him his silver medal from the Tokyo World Championships.
