Southern -- Recommended that AD Marino H. Casem be named temporary football coach. Officials had been prepared to name Houston Markham, Alabama State University's coach, to the position, but found out Tuesday that he renewed his contract with the Hornets.
NFL -- Named Pittsburgh Steelers LB Greg Lloyd and Detroit Lions LB Chris Spielman to the Pro Bowl as 43rd or "need" players. Invited Maryland CB Scott Rosen, DT Larry Webster and PK Dan DeArmas to the scouting combine next month in Indianapolis. Wide receiver Gene Thomas is also expected to receive an invitation.
