Nurse Is Certified

WESTMINSTER — Registered nurse Libby Fuss, director of employee health and infection control at Carroll County General Hospital, was recently awarded afive-year certification as an infection control specialist by the Certification Board of Infection Control.

CBIC is an independent accreditation agency that provides technical support for health-care professionals in the field of communicable diseases.

Certification requires preparation about the causes and prevention of nosocomial infections, a specialty that focuses on diseases acquired in hospitals or health-care settings.

Fuss' responsibilities include educating the staff about preventing the spread of infectionsas well as developing and implementing hospital-wide procedures related to infection-control policies. As the employee health nurse, Fusscoordinates physicals for new employees and the care of hospital staff who become sick or injured on the job.

Married to the Rev. Gerald Fuss, chaplain of the Hoffman Homes for Youth in Gettysburg, Pa., Fuss has two sons, Timothy, 16, and Joshua, 7. The family resides in Westminster.
