January 13, 1992

A 27-year-old physical therapist collapsed yesterday evening at an Anne Arundel County community center while training for a kick-boxing bout and later died at a hospital.

Anne Arundel police said Ladell Archie Gaskins, of the 2400 block of Reisterstown Road in Baltimore, was sparring with his partner in the third round at the Lloyd W. Keiser Community Center in Pumphrey shortly after 4 p.m. when he suddenly fell to the canvas without being hit.

Gaskins went into full cardiac arrest while his trainer applied cardiopulmonary resuscitation in an effort to revive him, police said.

Police said Gaskins was transported from the center by ambulance to Harbor Medical Center in Baltimore, where he died at 5:20 p.m.

An autopsy was to be performed today by the state medical examiner's office, police said.
