Here's what to look for if you're traveling in the Baltimore metropolitan area this week. This list of highway projects includes only newly announced work, not continuing construction, which is extensive on several highways, including Interstate 95, U.S. 50/301 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.

New highway projects

Northbound U.S. 1 at Penn Avenue -- Beginning Thursday, one lane of northbound U.S. 1 at Penn Avenue will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday for about three weeks for maintenance work.

The Ostend Street bridge over Camden yards is closed because of construction. This is for bridge replacement and reconstruction of Ostend Street from Russell to Sharp streets and the resurfacing of Ostend Street from Sharp to Leadenhall streets. Project is to be completed in May 1993.

Fallsway between Eager, Biddle and Chase streets is closed due to reconstruction of Fallsway and Chase Street bridges.

Bus route changes:

The MTA has scheduled the following changes in bus routes for this week. Information: 539-5000; TTY for the hearing-impaired, 539-3497.

Temporary reroutings

No. 15 (Bloomingdale Road Bridge) -- Effective immediately and continuing until further notice, construction between Bloomingdale Road and Belmont Avenue, and Poplar Grove and Winchester streets, necessitates the following temporary route change: Eastbound via regular route to Bloomingdale and Belmont, east on Belmont, south on Poplar Grove, then via regular route. Westbound via regular route to Poplar Grove and Winchester, north on Poplar Grove, west on Presstman Street, north on Bloomingdale, then via regular route.

No. 15 (Overlea Loop) -- Effective tomorrow and continuing until further notice, the Overlea loop will be closed because of construction, necessitating the following temporary route: Northbound via regular route on Belair Road to Northern Parkway, west on Northern Parkway, south on Walther Boulevard. Layover will be on Walther between Northern Parkway and Fleetwood Avenue in the designated transit stop. Southbound from the temporary layover on Walther between Northern Parkway and Fleetwood, east on Fleetwood, south on Belair, then via regular route.
