January 03, 1992|By Marty McGee

LAUREL -- Broadway's Sister shed her bridesmaid's image when striding away to a 5 1/2 -length victory in the feature race yesterday at Laurel Race Course.

The 4-year-old filly had finished second or third six times in 10 previous starts, winning only once. But she surged past Mogambo's Pleasure and I'm No Bargain at the quarter-pole yesterday and quickly drew off.

Ridden by Rick Wilson, the filly returned $6.80 as third choice in a field of six allowance runners. She completed 1 1/16 miles in 1 minute, 45 2/5 seconds on a fast track.

NOTES: Edgar Prado rode 2 winners yesterday, giving him an 85-81 lead over idle Mike Luzzi atop the jockeys standings. . . . The second half of yesterday's Double Triple was canceled when Klondex Light, one of the race favorites, was a late scratch. The 10 live tickets became worth double their exchange value ($749.40). . . . Laurel will simulcast the Flamingo Stakes tomorrow from Hialeah. The 1 1/8 -mile race begins the 4-month trail to the Triple Crown. . . . A field of 9 3-year-old fillies has been entered in tomorrow's $40,000 Marshua Stakes. . . . Terri Berwanger, 22, makes her riding debut today aboard Stalwart Wind in the first race.
