Siena's late surge beats Loyola, 82-66

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- Siena College, which almost lost a 15-point second-half lead, rallied for an 82-66 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory over Loyola College before 3,744 at the Alumni Recreation Center last night.

The Saints used an 11-2 burst during a five-minute span to build a 65-54 lead with 5 minutes, 54 seconds to go and were not seriously challenged the rest of the way. The home team had a decisive margin at the foul line, making 32 of 43 chances to 11-for-15 for Loyola.

Loyola was held scoreless for the first 3:55, and eventually Siena turned a 39-32 lead into 47-32. From there, senior Kevin Green led a Loyola spree, collecting 12 points in a 20-7 run that closed the margin to 54-52.

Green finished with 25 points, followed by Mike Reese, 22 points, including four three-point baskets, and a team-high eight rebounds. A Reese jumper gave the Greyhounds their first basket of the second half.

Bruce Schroeder was the high scorer for Siena with 23 points, followed by Lee Matthews, 17 points and 14 rebounds.
