Howard downs Towson, 74-69

WASHINGTON -- Howard University scored its last seven points at the foul line in defeating Towson State, 74-69, at Burr Gymnasium last night. It was Howard's first win at home in three starts and extended Towson State's road record to 0-7.

The Bison got its last field goal on a basket by Julius McNeil for a 67-64 lead with 53 seconds left. The closest the Tigers came the rest of the way was 71-69 on a pair of foul shots by John James with 20 seconds left.

Towson State had the lead for the last time at 8:06 of the first half, 22-21, on a basket by Myron Ray, but McNeil scored on a jump shot, and the Bison extended the lead to 10, before going off at the half with a 34-28 lead.

Robert Riddick (Meade), a 6-foot-3 junior guard, one of 10 Bison scorers, was the high scorer for Howard with 15 points, including two free throws with 24 seconds left that gave his side a 71-67 margin. McNeil added 14 points.
