Old Mill's three-time Class 4A-3A state champion wrestling team earned bragging rights as the Baltimore/Washington area's best program with its 152.5-to-133.5 victory over host St. Stephens/St. Agnes in a tournament Saturday in Alexandria, Va.
Fifth-ranked Brian Layman (171, 8-1) repeated his champion performance and was joined by second-ranked John Bliss (145, 9-0). Runners-up were Josh Buckland (95, 2-1),Jason Bryant (103, 7-2), Todd Hultgren (152, 7-2) and Mark Proccacini (160, 4-1).
Third-ranked heavyweight Don Marco (8-2), third-ranked Ernie Longazel (189, 8-1) and Young Chang (140, 6-4) placed third; and Steve Lundstrom (112, 7-4), Vytas Dulys (119, 5-4) and Rick Oleszczuk (135) were fourth.
The Patriots beat Virginia's St. Stephens, Yorktown (132 points, third) and Robinson (101, fourth).
