TV actor is involved in fatal car crash

December 30, 1991

Montgomery County police were trying to decide yesterday whether charges should be filed against a television actor from California who was involved in a fatal car accident in Potomac.

Police said they are investigating the possibility that alcohol and driver error contributed to the head-on collision on River Road Saturday morning.

Police said a Honda driven by actor Phil Lewis, 23, son of Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. of Washington President Delano Lewis, crossed a center line and hit a Buick driven by a 21-year-old Washington woman, police said.

Isabel Duranrte was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Suburban Hospital. The accident occurred about 1 a.m.

Mr. Lewis, 23, of West Hollywood, Calif., was treated at Suburban Hospital. He was recuperating at home yesterday.

Mr. Lewis starred in the CBS television show "Teech" as the character Teech Gibson, the Associated Press reported. The show was canceled this fall.
