Police examine abduction report

December 30, 1991

Baltimore County police called off a five-hour search of the Rosedale area last night for a 4-year-old girl who was reported abducted by a neighborhood youngster.

Police could not confirm last night whether an abduction had taken place, but said no one had been reported missing.

Teams of police searched for the girl throughout Rosedale, going up and down streets, banging on doors and looking in a nearby ravine. A state police helicopter also was called in to help.

The only description police had was that of a white girl with brown hair who was said to be wearing a purple jacket and blue jeans. About 3:30 p.m., police said, a 7-year-old boy told authorities he saw three men grab the girl near Boaz and Neighbors Avenue, near the Rosedale Elementary School.

Last night, police had concentrated on following up on various leads, including reports that two other boys may also have witnessed the incident and a woman who heard a noise in the woods. But soon after that, police called off the search. They said it may resume this morning.
