Car parked by I-95 bursts into flames traffic disrupted

December 29, 1991

Baltimore County firefighters had their hands full at about 3:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon when a 1988 Hyundai burst into flames after its driver parked the car on the shoulder of northbound Interstate 95 south of White Marsh Boulevard, believing that it had simply overheated.

The driver, Andrea Maloney, 23, of the 7100 block of Eastbrook Avenue in the Eastpoint area, apparently went for help, along with her passenger, police said. When Miss Maloney called state police to report the disabled vehicle, they gave her the bad news that the car was ablaze, said Tfc. Denard David Allen.

The cause of the fire was unknown last night. It was believed to have started in the engine compartment. There were no injuries, but traffic was backed up for miles.
