Gorbachev's legacy

It's your call

December 27, 1991

Of 217 callers to SUNDIAL, 193, or 88 percent, say history will remember Mikhail Gorbachev as a success, and only 24 callers (11 percent) say he will be viewed as a failure.

By a count of 130 to 88, or 60 percent to 40 percent, callers say the former Soviet republics will be better off in their new alliance than they were.

Boris Yeltsin, president of the Russian republic, will fare worse than Gorbachev as a leader, in the opinion of 138 out of 213 callers (64 percent), while 75 callers (35 percent) say Yeltsin will fare better.

"It's Your Call" represents a sampling of opinions from certain segments of the community, but it is not balanced demographically, as in a scientific public opinion poll.
