Nancy K. Carroll

Nancy K. Carroll, a former University of Maryland professor, died of emphysema Thursday at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lexington, Ky. She was 74.

The former Nancy Kealhofer was born in Durant, Miss., but moved with her parents to Missouri, where she was educated in the public school system. She received a bachelor of arts degree 1937 from Washington College in St. Louis.

In 1950, she married Edward Carroll. When he died in 1964, she returned to St. Louis and Washington College to earn her master's degree in 1966 and doctoral degree in 1970, both in social work.

Ms. Carroll taught at Washington University from 1970 to 1975, when she was offered a job as professor of social work at the University of Maryland at Baltimore. She retired in 1983 and joined her daughter, Nora, in Fort Collins, Colo. In 1989, they moved to Lexington, Ky.

She is survived by two daughters, Nora Carroll of Washington, D.C., and Bridget Carroll of St. Louis, Mo.; a son-in-law, Robert Lucore of Washington D.C.; and a granddaughter.
