LITTLE BUTCHER BOY MEAT MARKET 9725 York Road, York Village Shopping Center. Open: 8 a.m. to 7 Mondays to Wednesdays and Saturdays; 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays. Call (410) 628-1828. Fax (410) 628-1677. Don't let the name fool you; this is not an ordinary meat market. How do homemade rolls and sandwich breads sound? Or perhaps Clams Casino ($4.99 for 8), Oysters Rockefeller ($4.99 for six) or homemade crab soup ($2.99 a pint)?

I originally stopped at the market to buy back fin crab meat. I was so pleased with the crab and cole slaw that I decided to try other carryout items. While there recently, I chatted with owner Mike Cavallio, who bought the Butcher Boy 15 years ago and has expanded the meat market into a deli/catering business. He and former chef John Scarborough prepare a variety of regular and Italian dinners to go. Just call in the morning with your menu and they'll have your food ready later in the day.

The sandwich menu is huge, as are the Belly Buster sandwiches -- roast turkey ($4.20), ham, roast beef, corn beef, turkey breast ($3.95). My favorite sandwich is the Italian cold-cut sub ($2.65 for half). Fried chicken family packs began at $7.99 for eight pieces and go on up to 20 pieces for $15.99. And the salad bar selection is huge.

Every morning, Mr. Cavallio faxes the daily specials to about 55 local businesses and in return, many fax back their orders. The prices are good, especially on the prime/choice meats and seafood. Believe me, I'll be there next week for a first-hand look at the $4.99-a-pound fresh lobster, which Mr. Cavallio will steam

if you like.
