December 18, 1991

The basketball games involving Meade and North County high schools, postponed Dec. 6, will be played next month, said North County Athletic Director Mike Baker.

The games have been moved to Monday, Jan. 6, with the junior varsity girls playing at 3:30 at North County, followed by the varsity girls at 5 and the varsity boys at 7 p.m. The junior varsity boys game will be 3:30 at Meade.

The threat of a shooting forced county school officials to postpone the games. School and police sources said an anonymous person called 911 on Dec. 4 and warned of a possible retaliatory shooting at thevarsity boys game at North County.

The apparent target of the threat was Purnell Carter, 19. Carter was arrested that afternoon at Bowie State University and charged by police with attempted murder and handgun violations in the recent shooting of Meade student Delonte Dwayne Morsell, 17.

Baker also announced that the North County-Annapolis basketball games scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 7, have been moved to Jan. 8. The JV girls will play at 3:30 at North County, with the varsity girls game at 5 and the varsity boys at 7 p.m. The JV boys willplay at 3:30 p.m. at Annapolis.
