Catalog with ethnic interest

December 18, 1991|By Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel

Gail and Keith Griffin and Charles Mann (if the names seem familiar, that's because Griffin and Mann were teammates on the Washington Redskins) were frustrated at how difficult it was to find gifts with a strong relevance to their own African-American culture and identity. So, along with a team of investors, they came up with a new mail-order venture aimed at minority consumers.

The "Creative Images" catalog contains ethnic-specific wrapping paper and cards, art, books, Christmas items, clothes, toys and more. The company has ambitions of catering to the Asian, Hispanic and Native American markets. But the first issue is mainly an outlet for African and African-American craftsmen.

To order "Creative Images," send a check or money order for $2 plus 50 cents for shipping and hand-ling to: P.O. Box 821, Durham, N.C. 27702; or call 1-800-8-IMAGE-0. You will receive a rebate coupon and future catalogs will be free.
