The Anne Arundel County Department of Health will conduct mandated vision and hearing screening in public and private schools for children in preschool, kindergarten, third grade, eighth grade and for students new to Anne Arundel County Schools.

Students in the appropriate grades will be screened at the following schools:

* Tuesday-Wednesday: Linthicum Elementary and Pershing Elementary.

* Thursday-Friday: Fort Smallwood Elementary and Waugh Chapel Elementary.

APPLY FOR TUITION AID

Full-time teachers with the Anne Arundel County Public Schools are encouragedto apply for the Sharon Christa McAuliffe Memorial Tuition Assistance Program, which provides financial support for teachers to pursue certification in subjects where there are critical shortages of teachers.

Completed applications are due by Friday to Personnel Specialist Victoria McCormick in the Division of Human Resources. Information:Nancy Jane Adams, 224-5312.

PROGRAM ACCREDITED

Anne Arundel Community College is a member of the first community college consortium inthe nation accredited by the American Nurses Association (ANA) to provide continuing education for regstered nurses.

APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED

Applicationsare now being accepted for scholarship awards in the Elks National Foundation's 1992 "Most Valuable Student" contest.

Financial need, leadership and scholarship are the criteria by which applicants are judged. Students who qualify for final consideration usually have a scholarship rating of 90 percent or better and stand in the upper 5 percent of their classes.

Application must be made on an official form furnished by the Elks National Foundation, which is available at Elks lodges. Applications must be filed no later than Jan. 16, 1992.

Names of winners will be announced about May 1, 1992.

Requests for additional information should be addressed to the scholarship chairman of the local lodge.
