Charles Town to simulcast 2 handicaps

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -- The final leg of the the 1991 Fillies and Mares Starter Handicap Series and a simulcast of the $250,000 Bay Meadows Handicap highlight tonight's 12-race card at the Charles Town Races.

In the distaff starter handicap, the eighth race on Charles Town's program, William Bayne, Jr.'s Crystal City Go Go and David Winpigler, Sr.'s Versatile Keys head a field of nine fillies and mares at a mile and a quarter. In the point standings to determine the leading trainer of the series, Versatile Keys (Jeff Runco) is the leader with 11 points, followed by Miss Watersville (Henry Mercer) with 10, I Breath Fire (Patty Burns), 6 and Crystal City Go Go (David Walters), 5.

The winning horse in each race is awarded five points with three points to second, two points to third and one point to fourth. The trainer of the horse accumulating the most points during the series will receive a $1,000 cash bonus with $500 to second, $350 to third and $150 to fourth.

The cash bonus awards are being donated by West Virginia Breeders Classics, Ltd.

Also on tap tonight is a simulcast of the $250,000 Guaranteed Bay Meadows Handicap, a mile and an eighth test on the Longden Turf Course for 3-year-olds and upward, to be run as Charles Town's third race.

Post time for the first race is 6:30 p.m.
