Upstart U.S. News challenges 2 top weeklies

This fall, for the first time, U.S. News & World Report has consistently run more advertising pages than Newsweek.

Time and Newsweek have both posted sharp advertising declines this year. Through their issues dated Dec. 2, Time showed a 21 percent decline in ad pages from a year earlier, while Newsweek was down 15 percent.
