Western Maryland College freshman Buffy Burke won three events and set a pair of school records as the women's swimming team defeated host Elizabethtown, 123-58, Wednesday.
Burke established new Green Terror records in the 200 freestyle (1:59.41) and 100 free (54.78), breaking the 54.79 time she swam in the 100 earlier this season against Albright. She also placed first in the 500 free. Burke's classmate Alison Denlinger and sophomore Anna Jakubiec, were double winners for the Green Terrors, who evened their record at 2-2.
The Western Maryland men fell to 1-3 after losing to Elizabethtown 109-76. Matt Cook in the 200 butterfly and Matt Gebhard in the 1,000 free were individual winners for Western Maryland, and teamed with Mike Jekogian and Trevor Wysong to win the 400 free relay.
In other WMC action, the wrestling team improved to 2-0 on the season in a 57-0 romp at Gallaudet.
Sophomore Andy Dell, a North Carroll graduate, got the Green Terrors off to a quick start with a pin in 1:06 over Chris McElhattan in the 118-pound bout. Fellow North Carroll graduate Justin Deibel followed at 126 with a 16-6 decision over Darryl Drake and Jude Deibel pushed the lead to 16-0 with a fall in 4:50 over Kelly McElhattan at 134.
Also recording falls were John Wilson (142), Mike Flemming (150), Pat Maczko (158), Mike Eichner (177) and Scott Tinney (190). Ray Pickersgill (167) earned a technical fall, and heavyweight Jeff McAndrew was a winner by forfeit.
