COLUMBIA — A man armed with a knife robbed an undisclosed amount of cash Tuesday from a Jessup Amoco station after threatening a clerk, county police said.
The man entered Gallagher's Amoco station, in the 8200 block of U.S. 1, shortly before 11:25 p.m. and placed a knife to the clerk's waist, demanding she open the register, police said.
After taking the money from the register, the man fled the store and was last seen heading south on U.S. 1, police said.
The man wore a blue, hooded sweat shirt and black pants. Police said the victimwas not injured.
CENTENNIAL FIRE CAUSES $8,000 IN DAMAGES
A fire in a furnace at Centennial High School caused about $9,000 in damage Sunday to the school's boiler room, but no one was injured, county firefighters said.
The fire began at about 4 p.m. at the school, 4300 Centennial Lane, when the furnace apparently began overflowing, firefighters said.
The building's sprinkler systems extinguished someof the blaze and county firefighters were able to contain the fire to the furnace room.

11500 block Little Patuxent Parkway: A 1990 Jeep Cherokee automobile was reported stolen at 5 p.m. Tuesday from a commercial business area.
9600 block Gerwig Lane: Someone attempted to pry open the door of the Columbia Chef restaurant sometime before 6 a.m. Monday, but was unable to gain entry.
10500 block Green Mountain Circle: A 1990 Acura Legend automobile was reported stolen at 8 a.m. Tuesday from a residential area.

3200 block Normandy Woods Drive: A 1989 Geo Spectrum automobile
was reported stolen at 2:30 a.m. Sunday from a residential area.
10000 block U.S. 1: A 1987 Chevrolet Camaro automobile that had previously been stolen from Prince George's County was discovered at 3 p.m. Monday after it was abandoned in a parking lot.
8100 block Aspenwood Way: A 1984 Pontiac Fiero automobile was reported stolen at 3:30 p.m. Monday from a residential area.
6600 block Amberton Drive: An officer on patrol discovered a theft in progress and arrested two people on suspicion of stealing gas from a truck. Arrested shortly before 8:40 p.m. Sunday were James Lewis Minter, 27, of Linthicum, and a 16-year-old girl from Baltimore.
8000 block Dorsey Run Road: Someone tampered with the ignition on a 1991 Ford Econoline van sometime before 7 a.m. Monday, but was unable to start the vehicle. The same vehicle was reported stolen several hours later from nearby Iron Bridge Road.
