ANNAPOLIS — EDUCOM, a consortium of higher education institutions, has selected a Naval Academy interactive video project as one of top three of 116 entries in its Higher Education Software Award Program.

Professor Gladys Rivera-La Scala, language studies department chairwoman, was presented with an award of $3,000.

MARCIL DECORATED

DATELINE: ANNAPOLIS

Army Capt. Roger B. Marcil, son of Roger B. Marcil of Annapolis, has been decorated with the Meritorious Service Medal.

Marcil is aproperty and services branches officer at Ft. Wainwright, Alaska. Heis a 1977 graduate of Bowie Senior High School and a 1986 graduate of Florida Institute Technology University in Tampa.

SHARPS IN ENGLAND

DATELINE: ANNAPOLIS

Air Force Airman 1st Class Deral D. Sharps, son of Francis S. Sharps of Annapolis, has arrived for duty at RAF Bentwaters in Woodbridge, England.

Sharps is a 1987 graduate of Annapolis Senior High School.

WOMBLE IS MAJOR

DATELINE: ARNOLD

Marine Maj. Alan M. Womble, a 1979 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, was promoted to to his present rank while serving at Naval Strike Warfare Center in Fallon, Nev.

His wife, Cindy, is the daughter of Pat Thompson of Arnold. Womble is a 1974 graduate of Reidland High School in Paducah, Ky.

REMMERS PROMOTED

DATELINE: ARNOLD

Cadet Charles HenryRemmers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Remmers of Arnold, has been promoted to the rank of corporal at Fishburne Military School.

Remmers was selected for promotion on the basis of deportment, knowledgeand performance.

RODANO IN GERMANY

Army Pvt. Michael P. Rodano, son of Paul F. and Janice E. Rodano of Crownsville, has arrived for duty in Frankfurt, Germany.

Rodano is a 1989 graduate of High Point High School in Beltsville.

INGRAM IS HONORED

DATELINE: EDGEWATER

Army Sgt. Rodney S. Ingram, son of Susan D. Margwarth of Holiday, Fla., and Robert Ingram of Edgewater, has been named noncommissioned officer of the year.

Ingram is an assistant operations supervisor at McGraw Kaserne in Germany. He is a 1986 graduateof Gulf Comprehensive High School in New Port Richey, Fla.

PEARSON ENDS COURSE

DATELINE: FORESTVILLE

Marine Pvt. Samuel L. Pearson, a 1991 graduate of Forestville High School, has completed training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

Pearson joined the Marine Corps in May 1991.

ALVARADO TRAINED

Navy Seaman Apprentice Robert Alvarado, son of Emma Jamison and stepsonof Army Sgt. Bernard L. Jamison of Ft. Meade, has completed trainingat Recruit Training Command in San Diego, Calif.

Alvarado is a 1991 graduate of Meade Senior High School.

LEAZOTT HAS SCHOLARSHIP

DATELINE: FORT MEADE

Cadet Nicole D. Leazott, daughter of Army Lt. ColDonald B. and Andrea J. Leazott of Ft. Meade, has received a two-year ROTC scholarship.

Leazott is a student at the University of New Hampshire.

MILLER IN ROTC

DATELINE: FORT MEADE

Air Force Cadet Eric J. Miller, son of Army Maj. Edward P. and Judith Miller of Ft. Meade, has received a four-year Air Force ROTC scholarship.

A 1991 graduate of Meade Senior High School, Miller is a student at Cedarville College in Ohio.

MONDA RE-ENLISTS

DATELINE: GLEN BURNIE

Navy PettyOfficer 2nd Class James P. Monda, son of Rachel V. Monda of Glen Burnie, has re-enlisted for three years while serving with Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 131 at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, in Oak Harbor, Wash.

A 1982 graduate of Old Mill Senior High School, Monda joined the Navy in November 1982.

YOUNKIN IN COMMISSIONING

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Michael A. Younkin, a 1981 graduate of Glen Burnie Seniro High School, recently participated in the commissioning of the guided missile Cruiser USS Hue City, homeported in May

port, Fla.

Younkin joined the Navy in November 1981.

SULLIVAN IN PANAMA

Army Spec. Michael J. Sullivan, son of June V. Sullivan of Hagerstown, has arrived forduty in Coroza, Panama. His wife, Doris, is the daughter of Robert Hulsey and Mary Hulsey, both of Glen Burnie.

A 1986 graduate of Williamsport High School, Sullivan is a military police specialist.

Pvt. Mark E. Teal, son of Bridget M. Teal of Glen Burnie, has completed basic training at Ft. Jackson, S.C.

Teal is a 1991 graduate of Glen Burnie Senior High School.

HEINECKE ENDS TRAINING

Marine Pvt. Timothy W. Heinecke, son of Ronald E. and Sandra L. Heinecke of Glen Burnie, has completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

A 1991 graduate of Glen Burnie High School, he joined the Marine Corps Reserves in July 1991.

BRADLEY MAKES CORPORAL

Marine Lance Cpl. Curtis S. Bradley, son of Harry Fenton Bradley of Laurel, was promoted to his present rank while serving with the Marine Corps Security Force Company in Keflavik, Iceland.

A 1990 graduate of Mainland Senior High School in Daytona Beach, Fla., Bradley joined the Marine Corps in January 1991.

Pvt. Joseph M. Bjornstad, son of BonnieL. and David M. Bjornstad of Millersville, has completed basic training at Ft. Jackson, S.C.

METZLER GRADUATES

Army National Guard Private 1st Class Christopher P. Metzler, son of Paul W. and Sue E. Metzler of Millersville, has graduated from a helicopter repairer course at Ft. Eustis in Newport News, Va.

Metzler is a 1991 graduate of Severna Park Senior High School.

HUTCHINSON PROMOTED

DATELINE: ODENTON

William F. Hutchinson III, son of Janice S. Garner of Hollywood, Md., has been commissioned a second lieutenantupon graduation from the Air National Guard Academy of Military Science, McGhee Tyson Airport in Knoxville, Tenn.

His wife, Carrie, isthe daughter of John F. Jenkins of Odenton.

A 1984 graduate of Gwynn Park High School, Hutchinson is a fighter pilot trainee at Andrews Air Force Base.
