Services for Vincent Lewis Slater of Odenton are scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Hardesty Funeral Home in Gambrills. Interment follows at Epiphany Episcopal Cemetery.

Mr. Slater, 73, died of cardiac arrestNov. 27 at Harbor Hospital.

Born in Maryland, Mr. Slater earned a Purple Heart in the Army during World War II. He retired in 1972 from the Fire Department with over 25 years of service.

A member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 199, Mr. Slater enjoyed gardening and baseball.

Mr. Slater is survived by his wife, Evelyn R. Slater; four children, Rhoda L. Murray of Millersville, Ronald V. Slater of Severn, Rick L. Slater of Pasadena and Robin C. Champley of Odenton; two sisters, Vera Muntean of Severn and Rhoda Reynolds of Odenton; and five grandchildren.
