Call (410) 342-7714. Fells Point, at any time of year, is a browsy sort of neighborhood. Nowadays, with holiday gift shopping on the agenda, the bakery in the market is a great last place to stop after a day in the little specialty stores and boutiques. Is there anything more comforting after a day in the cold than a hot bowl of soup and warm bread right from the oven?

Not much, especially when it has all been done for you.

Good breads and new tastes are the specialty here. You name it, they make it. The variety may change from day to day but any loaf is a good bet. There are various beer breads with seasonings such as spring onion and dill, olives, sun-dried tomatoes and mozzarella and a range of good-for-you loaves of many grains; not cheap compared to grocery store prices ($4.50 for spring onion and dill), but good enough to make a meal of it with some cream cheese and chowder.

The soup of the day recently was a creamy vegetable chowder with a milk base -- yummy at $1.95 a portion. If you're thinking of a smaller snack, a cup of soup with a savory muffin is just fine at $2.85.

For those who want an instant meal, jambon puff pastry ($3.10) with a ham and cheese filling does it.
