Dulaney's White sets the pace for locals in Kinney Regionals CROSS COUNTRY

November 29, 1991|By Paul McMullen

Amanda White, the Runner of the Year on the 1991 Baltimore Sun All-Metro team, heads a small contingent of area boys and girls competing in the Kinney Northeast Regional cross country race at Van Cortlandt Park in New York tomorrow.

A junior at Dulaney High, White is a two-time state Class 4A champion who set 10 course records in as many races this fall. She finished third in the Northeast Regional in 1990 -- her first season of cross country -- and had the same place at the Kinney Nationals.

The 1991 Kinney Nationals will be held Dec. 14 in San Diego.

White has a hectic weekend, as she plans to travel tomorrow TC from New York to Minneapolis, site of the U.S. Open Swimming Championships. A member of the North Baltimore Aquatic Club, White is within a half-second of qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 200 breast stroke.

Also expected at the Kinney Regional is Poly senior Anita Manning, another member of the All-Metro team. New Jersey's Monal Chokshi, Pennsylvania's Kimberly McGreevy, Connecticut's Katie White and New Yorkers Jennifer Rhines and Liz Mueller enter with strong credentials.

At least three All-Metro boys -- Glenelg's Gerard Hogan, Milford Mill's Mike Mamo and Loyola's Gavin McCarty -- will compete.
