NFL -- Named Detroit Lions RB Barry Sanders (220 yards, 4 TDs) NFC Offensive Player of the Week and New York Giants LB Pepper Johnson (team-record 4 1/2 sacks) Defensive Player of the Week. Named New England Patriots WR Irving Fryar (6 catches, 134 yards, 1 TD) and Seattle Seahawks LB Rufus Porter (3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles) AFC offensive and defensive Players of the Week.

CFL -- British Columbia QB Doug Flutie was a unanimous choice to the all-star team. Also named was rookie WR Raghib "Rocket" Ismail, one of 8 Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonauts picked for the squad.

Colleges

ACC -- The Associated Press named Jimy Lincoln (846 yards in 11 games) of Georgia Tech Rookie of the Year. Maryland G Jade Dubis and Clemson K Nelson Welch, the ACC scoring leader, tied for third in the voting. Also, Virginia DE Chris Slade (5 sacks 10 tackles against Virginia Tech) was named Exxon Player of the Week.
