AIDS patients

It's your call

November 29, 1991

The response to The Evening Sun's informal telephone survey on the issue of whether doctors have the responsibility to treat all patients, regardless of their illness (including AIDS) mirrors the response by doctors themselves in a nationwide survey.

One-third of the 440 callers to SUNDIAL answered that doctors do not have a responsibility to treat all patients. A recent survey of American physicians found nearly one-third of them did not feel bound by that responsibility -- a view that the American Medical Association says flouts basic principles of doctors in society.

"It's Your Call" represents a sampling of opinions from certain segments of the community, but it is not balanced demographically, as a scientific public opinion poll would be.
