Edward M. Lynch, a veteran union leader who retired as international president of the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians, died last Friday of lung cancer at his home in Gaithersburg. He was 71.

The upstate New York native joined the staff of his union in 1952 and was a regional director in Buffalo until 1968, when he became the union's network coordinator, based in Bethesda. Mr. Lynch was elected president in 1971 and was re-elected three times, retiring in 1986.
