Elks Name Robinson As '91 Top Cop

On Friday night, the BPOE 2266 Elks Lodge of Glen Burnie honored Detective Richard F. Robinson of the Western District as one of two Policemen of the Year.

Robinson's area of responsibility is Severn andGlen Burnie.

Robinson joined the Anne Arundel County Police Department in September 1976 as a cadet. In January 1979, he became a police officer.

He has been assigned to uniformed patrol, the narcotics section and, currently, the Western District Team Police.

Robinson has cleared many cases and recovered thousands of dollars in stolen property. Robinson closed a serious assault case, making five arrests, after thecase appeared to come to a dead end.

Robinson also broke a case involving people who were breaking into automobiles in apartment complexes around Glen Burnie. Robinson solved the case, making five arrests and recovering several thousands of dollars in property.

Robinson investigated the first computer fraud case for the department; it ended with one arrest and $1,000 in restitution. His investigation into arson of vehicles parked at Harmans Elementary School ended with two arrests and $20,000 restitution, the largest restitution awarded bythe juvenile court system.

The other Policeman of the Year is Officer Michael Soriano of the Northern District.
