No. 20 Va. humbles Va. Tech, 38-0 Cavs QB sets mark with no interceptions

November 24, 1991

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Virginia quarterback Matt Blundin began the season with a modest goal and ended it with a pair of eye-catching NCAA records.

Blundin capped an interception-free regular season by throwing for three touchdowns yesterday as No. 20 Virginia (8-2-1) rolled to a 38-0 victory over Virginia Tech (5-6).

"I'd call four or five interceptions a pretty good year. I just wanted to keep them to a minimum, but I obviously never expected anything like this," Blundin said.

Blundin, a 6-foot-7, 232-pound senior, broke the single-season and career marks by extending to 231 his streak of consecutive passes without an interception.

Jack Trudeau of Illinois had 215 passes in a row without an interception in 1985, setting both the single-season and career NCAA marks.

Blundin wound up with 222 yards on 13-of-23 passing as the Gator Bowl-bound Cavaliers extended their unbeaten streak to eight games.
