Coach Tom Taylor's Catonsville Community College women's soccer teamthat is loaded with Anne Arundel County products upset host Mercer Community College (N.J.), 1-0, Friday to move into today's final of the National Junior College Athletic Association against second-seeded Meramec C.C. of St. Louis.
Catonsville (12-8-1) entered the tournament for the first time in school history as the eighth seed, and after upsetting third-seeded Champlain (Vt.), 1-0, on Thursday, stunned No. 5-seed Mercer.
Amy Leshear tallied the lone goal against Mercer off an assist byJen Stewart. Goalie Mickey Burns had 22 saves for the victorious Cardinals.
"Two Anne Arundel girls played great defense for us to enable us to get the shutout in Tracy Hodski (Chesapeake) and Stephanie Meyer (North County)," said Taylor, who resides in Glen Burnie and teaches at North County High.
