Midshipman Takes Oath

Midshipman Andrew DeMonte, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas DeMonte of Joppa, participated in Acceptance Day ceremonies at the U.S. Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.

A 1991 graduate of John Carroll School,DeMonte was administered the academy oath with 285 other plebes.

DeMonte, who was nominated to the academy by Senator Barbara Mikulski, reported with the rest of the class in July.

The academy is operated by the Maritime Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation for training of merchant marine officers. Their initial two months were spent in regimental and academic training.


Marine Pfc. Brian G. Cox, son of Carroll L. and Harriett L. Cox, of Jarrettsville, reported for duty with the 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Force Service Support Group Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan.

The 1987 graduate of North Harford High School joined the Marine Corps in January.


Marine Pfc. Edward G. Bowes, son of Paul E. and JoAnne H. Bowes of Bel Air, completed recruit training and was meritoriously promoted to his present rank.

During the training cycle at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C., recruits are taught the basics of battlefield survival, introduced to typical military daily routine and personal and professional standards.

The 1990 graduate of Bel Air High School joined the Marine Corps in July.


Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Christopher S. Carloss, son of William B. and Rosina M. Carloss of Aberdeen, reported for duty with the aircraft unit George Washington, based in Newport News, Va.

The 1989 graduate of Northeastern Senior High School, Pasadena, joined the Navy in August 1989.
