Getting a bead on beading

Want to know more about making your own jewelry and beading? Sources range from bead shops to classes and bead societies.

* The Bead Society of Baltimore meets the first Thursday of every month. Dues are $20 a year. For more information, write: P.O. Box 311, Riderwood 21139-0311 or call (410) 792-1108.

* The Bead Society of Greater Washington meets on the second Thursday of every month. Dues are $20 a year. For more information, write: P.O. Box 70036, Washington, D.C. 20088-0036 or call (301) 277-6830.

* Beadworks, 905 S. Ann St., in Fells Point sponsors jewelry-making classes and will give jewelry-making instruction at parties. Children's parties are $10 per child. Basic classes using borrowed tools cost $35 a person and includes a 2-hour class on making earrings, necklaces and bracelets. Bead tapestry classes are $90, including all supplies. Sculpey classes are $90 and include $30 worth of this clay material that can be made into beads and pins. To register and for more information, call (410) 732-2323.
