AEGON Insurance Group

This giant Dutch insurance company, parent of Monumental Life Insurance Co. in Baltimore, said that its income rose nearly 9 percent during the third quarter, prompting the company's board to raise its earnings expectations for the year.

The company, which employs about 1,000 workers in the Baltimore area, said that it earned $112 million for the three months that ended Sept. 30. It had net income of $103 million during the year-ago quarter. Excluding the effect of converting the results into U.S. dollars, income rose nearly 20 percent.

"Barring unforeseen circumstances, we now expect that operating income for 1991 will show a clear increase over the 1990 level," the company said.

AEGON, whose U.S. subsidiary accounted for roughly one-third of its revenues and one-fourth of its operating income last year, said that its U.S. operations showed steady growth during the third quarter.

Income figures have been restated to dollars from Dutch guilders using average exchange rates during the respective reporting periods. Results and percentage changes differ when stated in guilders.

?3 AEGON is traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
