Heritage Society Celebrates Birthday

The Odenton Heritage Society will celebrate its second birthday 10 a.m. today at the Odenton Branch Library. Learn what the society has done in the past two years and what it's planning.

There will not be a speaker for this meeting, just a celebration.

MacArthur Middle School elected a new student government association. The new representatives are: President Robert Parker, Vice President Stefan McDaniel, Secretary Mary Tipton, Assistant SecretaryKrystal Evans and Treasurer Andrea Petrisko.

The Piney Orchard Ice Arena is sponsoring Piney Orchard Night at the Capital Centre Nov. 27. The Capitals are playing the Montreal Canadiens. Tickets are$17, $12 and $7 for seats that are regularly $24, $16 and $11.

The Capitals are giving out hockey pucks to all fans, courtesy of Mobil.

* The rink also is sponsoring a Thanksgiving Food Drive in conjunction with the Army Community Services of Fort Meade. The food drivewill benefit families of the Armed Forces stationed at Fort Meade. Non-perishable foods can be dropped off at the arena from 8:30 a.m. to10 p.m. Monday through Friday. Items needed include bread stuffing, dry muffin mix, canned soup, canned vegetables, Jell-O or pudding mix, macaroni and cheese, dry milk, rice and canned applesauce and pears.

During its public session from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 24, the arena will give participants $1 off admission for bringing in a canned good. Participants will also be eligible to win tickets to a Capitals game.Piney Orchard Ice Arena is located on Route 170 South (8781 Piney Orchard Parkway) in Odenton. The Chapel Gate Community Association is sponsoring a food drive. On Nov. 20, everyone will receive a bag in which to place non-perishable food. On Saturday Nov. 23, place the bags so they are visible from the street. Volunteers will be around to pick them up between 9 a.m. and noon. If you do not want to participate, leave empty bags outside for reuse or to be recycled. To volunteer your services, or if youforget to place the bags outside, call 674-4810 or 674-4794.

* The association's November fund-raiser has ended, but you can still order Tupperware by calling 674-4810 until Nov. 22.

The Annual Christmas Ball of the Fort Meade Retired Officers' Wives' Club is slated for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Fort Meade Officers' Club. Music willbe provided by the band Sugar Beat. The cost is $22.50 per person. For reservations, call Norma Thompson at 987-4868.

Marion Adams of Gambrills Nursery will conduct a workshop on holiday centerpieces using fresh greens from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 17 at the O'Malley Senior Center, 1275 Odenton Road. The workshop is free; all supplies will beavailable at a small fee. Registration is required by Dec. 2.

The West Anne Arundel CountyChamber of Commerce will sponsor a holiday Business Connection from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Piney Orchard Visitor's Center, 2400 Stream Valley Drive in Odenton.

The KMS Group Inc. is playing host, and the evening includes a legislative reception. There is no charge for chamber members; prospective members are welcome. Reservations are required by Dec. 3 and can be made by calling 672-3422.
