COUPLE ARRESTED ON NEGLECT CHARGES

State Police arrested the mother of a 2-year-old child and her companion Saturday night after a manager of a Jessup hotel found the boy locked alone in a room, police said.

Themanager of the Parkway Inn, Tom Waddell, went to the room at about 11:30 p.m. after receiving a call complaining of a baby crying for more than an hour.

Sgt. Michael King, of the Glen Burnie barracks, said Waddell found the boy near the door. He was alone and the inside lock had been taped over, King said.

The manager took the boy to his office and called police.

King said the car the mother and her companion were driving had been reported stolen from Charles County and the couple apparently had taken the boy from his grandmother, who had been given custody of the child by a Montgomery County judge.
