Man, 22, dies in truck crash

November 19, 1991

State Police report that a 22-year-old Allegany County man died when the vehicle he was driving on U.S. 40 near Frostburg crashed into two utility poles.

Chad Montgomery Malone, of Frostburg, was driving a 1981 Chevrolet pickup truck west on U.S. 40 about 2:27 a.m. yesterday when the speeding vehicle left the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole alongside the shoulder, police said.

Police said that the impact severed the pole and that the vehicle continued on for several more yards before it struck a second utility pole.

That impact sheared off the top of the truck, causing Malone to be ejected from the vehicle, police said.

Malone, the lone occupant of the truck, was flown by Med-Evac helicopter to Cumberland Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

Police said Malone's death brought to 616 the number of people killed on Maryland roadways so far this year, compared to 657 at the same time last year.
